Jewel Orchid, Lightning
Scientific Name: Macodes petola
Common Name: Lightning Jewel Orchid
Jewel Orchids are different from "normal" orchids despite their shared common name. Jewel Orchids are known for their beautiful, rich "jewel-toned" foliage as opposed to their blooms. Other orchids are also epiphytic (grow on trees) in their natural habitats, which is why they need special airy, bark-focused potting mediums when kept as indoor plants. Jewel orchids are perfectly happy living in a soil-based medium (terrestrial).
The Lightning Jewel Orchid has dark green velvety leaves with golden veining that resembles lightning strikes. It can get up to 6-12" tall and will stay low to the ground with long leaves that can grow 3-6" in length.
Basic Care Notes: Bright, indirect light is best, but avoid direct sunlight. These thrive in terrariums and need a humidity level between 60-80% with regular misting and slightly damp, but not wet soil.
