Bromeliad
Scientific Name: Bromeliaceae
Common Name: Bromeliad
Bromeliads are a diverse group of flowering tropical plants. They have a central flower with 'watering tanks' that catch water to help them absorb all the nutrients they need! These plants tend be very slow-growing but very long lived! The central plant dies after flowing, but they produce 'pups' that can then be separated and repotted.
Basic Care: These plants need bright, indirect sunlight, 60-85 degree temperatures, and a consistent humidity to thrive. The soil itself needs to dry completely before watering, but the 'tank' needs to be kept full of water at all times. Plant in a light, well-draining soil, such as cactus mix, to reduce the chances of root rot.
