Lipstick Plant
Scientific Name: Aeschynanthus radicans
Common Name: Lipstick Plant, Basket Vine, Lipstick Vine
Lipstick Plants originally come from tropical and subtropical forests all over Southeast Asia. They are epiphytic in nature, and grow on trees rather than on the ground. As houseplants, they will trail and love to be in hanging baskets or on a shelf where they can trail as they please. The nickname Lipstick Plant comes from their unique blooms that start as a dark red bud and then as they bloom, the bright red center pops out, much like a tube of lipstick.
Basic Care Notes: Well-draining, chunky soil like a cactus mix, avoid normal potting soil as it can be too dense and cause root rot due to overwatering. Lipstick plants love lots of filtered, indirect bright light. Keep soil moist but not drenched, overwatering is a common issue for Lipstick Plants. They also prefer humidity and would appreciate supplemental misting or humidifiers.
