Alocasia, Ninja Tricolor
Scientific Name: Alocasia reginula 'Ninja' Tricolor
Common Name: Elephant’s Ear, Taro
Alocasias originate from tropical regions in Asia, South Pacific and Eastern Australia. They are known for their arrow- or heart-shaped foliage with unique color variations and striking vein colorations. Alocasia are fairly fast-growing and when they are happy in their environment, they can add multiple new leaves and grow up to 1-2 inches in height in one month. In the wild, some alocasia varieties can get up to 10-15 feet in size with leaves up to 36 inches wide when they are fully mature!
The highly rare Alocasia, the Ninja Tricolor features a stunning variegation or cram, mint, and occasionally even pink! With the thick, textured leaves of the Ninja, the tri-color is a jewel among Alocasias. This varietal also tends to stay bushier and compact than other varieties of Alocasia.
Basic Care Notes: Well draining soil, such as a cactus mix or a blend of soil mixed with amendments to help improve drainage such as orchid bark, perlite, vermiculite or peat moss. Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the first 2-3 inches of soil to dry out in between waterings. Alocasias don’t like their soil to dry out completely but don’t like “wet feet” so don’t let your alocasia sit in water! Alocasias like medium to bright indirect light. They also greatly appreciate added humidity, such as regular misting.
