Looking for a houseplant that practically takes care of itself? Meet the Spider Plant - a cheerful favorite that thrives on neglect and rewards you with baby spider plants. From classic green to striped and variegated beauties, these leafy companions bring personality to any room while asking very little in return. Perfect for plant parents of all skill levels! They come from the continent of Africa, are found in most countries in Africa, and have also naturalized to Australia (after being relocated there by some enterprising plant aficionados).

These are very easy care plants and tolerate (maybe even thrive on!) a little bit of neglect. Spider Plants grow very quickly and when they are happy, they will shoot off "pups" or baby spider plants on long stems called "inflorescences". Some plant parents will simply set the pups on top of soil and wait for them to root there and then remove them from the mother plant.

Fun fact: they are also on NASA's list of air purifying plants and can help keep your indoor air refreshed (although in most cases, you need dozens of plants to have any true noticeable effect to your air quality).

Varieties We Carry:

Clorophytum comosum is the "original" spider plant, and has solid dark green leaves with no variegations.
The 'Bonnie' or Curly variety has - you guessed it - curly leaves. The leaves on this variety curl under more dramatically and will also twist. They look reminiscent to curled ribbon!
The 'Hawaiian' variety has dark green leaves with yellow/cream centers.
The 'Vittatum' variety has green edges with a wide creamy white center.
The 'Variegatum' or 'Reverse' variety has white edges with a dark green center.
The 'Mandarin' or 'Fire Flash' variety has much wider leaves and the stem and base of the leaves is a bright creamy orange.
Our 'Mixture' is spider pups that we propagate and plant together in a mixture of different varieties in one pot.

Basic Care: Bright indirect light, spider plants don't like direct light and their leaves will burn if left in direct light. Water when soil is mostly dry, but do not overwater. If the tips of your spider plant turn brown, you can try watering with distilled water. This is very common in spider plants, and there is usually nothing wrong with the plant, they just don't like tap water (especially hard water) sometimes.
