Dracaena, Janet Craig
Scientific Name: Dracaena fragrans 'Compacta'
Common Names: Janet Craig Dracaena
Dracaena houseplants are a great beginner friendly houseplant. They are famous in certain circles for being incredibly low maintenance and tolerant to a variety of living conditions. Dracaena grow from a single stem and as they mature, the stem grows upward and the plant will look more like a tree with a cane-like trunk and a bushy top.
The Janet Craig Dracaena is a classic indoor plant for a reason, with rich green foliage and a compact, bushy growth pattern. It is a relatively slow-growing plant but as it matures, it will become a small tree, maxing out at about 6-8 feet tall.
Basic Care: Dracaena love bright, indirect light but can tolerate medium to low light conditions. Less light will slow down its growth. Pot in well draining soil and let the soil dry out completely in between waterings. These have similar watering needs to Snake Plants and can go up to a month (depending on the environment) between waterings. Do not overwater!
