Meet the Owner Part 1

Today, I want to start my story off by sharing a little bit about myself and my wonderful, crazy family and why Bill, my husband, and I are the owner of this incredible store. For me, I saw ritters as an opportunity to give back to this community that I have been a part of all my life. Bill and I both were raised in Spokane and we both had grandparents who owned iconic businesses in Spokane and Lake Ponderay. Bill's dad was a successful business owner in the glamorous world of asphalt and semi-trucks and my father spent his short life serving this community as a firefighter reaching the rank of Battalion Chief. When I was younger I dreamed of becoming a paramedic with the fire department Both my father and grandfather had served and I dreamed of following in their footsteps. Only problem, my father, bless his soul would not allow me to be on the fire department while he was in charge. So, after I got married, I became the next best thing, in my humble opinion, a registered nurse. I love to help people heal; mentally, physically and spiritually. For 13 years, I worked in many areas of health care and became a mom to 4 girls along the way. In 2003, Bill and I lost our fathers to cancer. I quit my job to help my mom through the grief but lost her just over a year later. They were far too young and so was I. It was tough, really tough. Thank the Lord I had my 4 amazing daughters to help me laugh through the tears. I stayed home and enjoyed my crazy fun family for a couple of years. It was at that point that I decided to step away from nursing. I needed a change but I still wanted to help people heal, laugh, find health and happiness. Then one day a friend told me about ritters being for sale. I have to confess, I have never been a gardener, in the true sense of the word. I’m more of a try planting this or that and see what happens type of gardener. Not exactly a recipe for success but I find the process to be incredibly fascinating and relaxing. I take great joy in the beauty, chemistry and just plain quirkiness of nature. That was the start of my journey into owning a garden center, from people to plants to purpose. Last part of it: What we provide here at ritters combines my desire to further people’s health and happiness and the wonderful world….healing. Owning ritters gives me the opportunity to give back to you and this community on a much grander scale than I ever could do on my own. In the next issue, I’ll continue the story and introduce you to my (crazy) good family.

I wish you MUCH health, happiness and healing, today and always!
