June Gardening Tips

Fertilize the garden. By now your garden has established enough that a good fertilizer is timely. It is far better to fertilize twice as often at half the rate than just dumping it all on at once. We recommend using a 10-20-20 fertilizer.
Kill unwanted lawn weed using liquid lawn weed killers. I like to recommend using a spreader sticker in with your spray mixture to improve effectiveness of weed killers.
Spray fruit trees for insects and fungus.
Spray rose bushes to prevent outbreaks of thrip, aphids, etc.
Prune late season flowering shrubs. The best time to prune most all flowering shrubs is right after they have finished blooming for the season. This assures enough time for new flower buds to set for next year's blooms. Pruning during the warm months will not harm your flowering shrubs.
Set out and plant the rest of your garden with ease, by now the temperatures are warm enough and frost has past that even zinnias can be planted without fear in most areas.
About lawns, water early in the morning, just before sunrise is best. Don't water again until you can see your footprints after walking across the lawn. Lawns need about 1 inch of water per week. Don't water every day, once or twice a week should be plenty, trust us.
Dead head annuals and perennials to keep lots of blooms coming and nice compact plants. Fertilize every two weeks with a water soluble fertilizer (20-20-20).
